Astro Bot Crowned Game of the Year:
Astro Bot Claims Top Honors at The Game Awards 2024. The charming and vibrant PlayStation platformer Astro Bot triumphed over strong contenders like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Balatro, securing the prestigious Game of the Year award at the industry’s biggest event.
In his acceptance speech, Nicolas Doucet, studio head at developer Team Asobi, appeared to acknowledge the influence of rival Nintendo. Astro Bot didn’t stop there, also taking home three additional trophies: Best Family Game, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Game Direction.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Astro Bot entered the ceremony as frontrunners, each earning an impressive seven nominations. Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 stole the spotlight, with Alan Wake 2 securing three awards and Baldur’s Gate 3 sweeping six categories, including the coveted Game of the Year.
Astro Bot emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners, claiming four awards, including Best Family Game and Best Game Direction. Other standout winners included Metaphor: ReFantazio, which took home Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG, and Balatro, which won both Best Indie and Best Debut Indie.
